Undergraduate Researcher

Timeline

July 2017 - May 2018

Description

  • Sponsored by Johnson & Johnson to investigate liquid-like solids (microgels) as a tool for supporting Drosophila (fruit fly) embryos for imaging studies.

  • Developed procedure for mounting Drosophila embryos within microgel matrices.

  • Captured images (time-lapses and videos) of Drosophila embryos in different concentrations of microgel.

  • Evaluated how microgel concentration impacted strength, viscosity, and ability to maintain Drosophila viability.

  • Presented research abstract and poster at Undergraduate Research Symposium and wrote full report of findings.
